About Rushaga Vulnerable Child Foundation
Who We Are
Rushaga Vulnerable Child Foundation is a non-profit organization, located on the edge of Rushaga Main Gate, southern sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Rushaga Village, Rubuguri Town Council, Kisoro District, Uganda. It was founded in 2018 by Akantorana Evarist, dedicated to empowering and giving hope to vulnerable children in the Rushaga community.
About Evarist Akantorana
As a community member, Evarist has a deep understanding of the challenges faced by vulnerable children in his community. Having been sponsored himself as a child, he grew passionate about investigating why so many vulnerable children are denied access to education—a recurring issue that prevents many from completing their studies. Seeing this as a major threat to the future of orphaned and poor children, Evarist founded the organization to create long-term solutions for children in and around Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and throughout Uganda.
The foundation started in 2018, supporting 17 orphaned children by providing food, shelter, clothing, medical care, and both informal and formal education. Today, the foundation supports 53 children, mostly orphans and a few from low-income families.
